Global Vision, Local Action – System Dynamics and Sustainable System Education in Taiwan (February 2024, Taiwan)

Leading universities worldwide are adopting University Social Responsibility (USR) and innovative educational practices, fostering effective innovation ecosystems through partnerships with international cities and regional developments. The iiLABs alliance, comprising National Chengchi University (NCCU), the National Science and Technology Council in Taiwan, and the System Dynamics Society, is dedicated to education for sustainable development (ESD) and sustainable system development (SSD) projects that relate to livable cities, cultural innovations, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Min-Ren Yan, NCCU has spearheaded SSD projects, such as a city-based educator training program and sustainable system education for pre-college teachers and students. These programs integrate Systems Thinking and System Dynamics education to promote sustainable system development within local contexts.

Nationwide SSD education centers have been established with support from the government, academia, and industry, featuring training workshops for pre-college teachers. These workshops offer a new pedagogical perspective and encourage interaction, clarification, and analysis of relevant issues.

To effectively implement Systems Thinking and System Dynamics in Taiwan’s national education curriculum, alignment with the local cultural context is crucial. Initiatives such as ‘Learning in Livable and Sustainable Taipei City’, ‘New Taipei City Education Innovation Hub’, ‘Fanyuan Education Center and National Park’, ‘Kavulungun Cultural Heritage Education Park’, involve school teachers, students, and communities, addressing critical issues.

Educational activities with a Systems Thinking theme for students and workshops for teachers have proven successful in the metropolitan and central area of Taiwan. NCCU, with its long-established legacy of leading national education policies, continues to receive government support for its SSD education centers, ensuring sustained positive impacts on education practices and society. Collaboration with the SD society and contributions enrich the SSD educational program.

政大國際團隊攜手地方社會推廣數位賦能永續發展教育

國科會核定設立的政大「數位賦能與ESG永續創新產學聯盟」與美國MIT及聯合國永續發展教育組織共同研發推動SSD國際科文教育和產業永續創新，深耕發展臺灣特色價值。11月25日在芳苑海空步道由政大數位賦能與永續發展研究中心主任暨聯盟執行長顏敏仁教授攜手國際學研機構、彰化縣芳苑國小吳偉誠校長、芳苑國中黃天助校長、鹿江國際中小學黃俊偉校長、洛津國小張榮裕校長、鹿港國小徐文男校長與芳苑地方社會賢達進行「SSD 國際科文公益教育基地」揭牌啟動儀式，帶領國際師生認識臺灣彰化鹿港文化、芳苑國寶濕地和海牛採蚵文化資產，以教育實踐及參與式學習方法倡導環境生態保育、社會人文與經濟融合的地方創生永續發展。

曾任聯合國UNDP顧問的政大顏敏仁教授表示本次活動由來自歐美亞澳12個國家的國際大學及彰化地方學校單位共同發起，正是全球視野在地行動的展現，希望引進國際教育資源，帶動彰化國中小學數位賦能與永續發展社會實踐，亦讓臺灣與國際社會彼此更認識在地特色文化，雙語教育雙向交流發展。特別感謝電腦RAM發明人，美國國家院士MIT Jay Forrester教授所創立的K-12教育機構Creative Learning Exchange，以及國際系統動力學會System Dynamics Society祕書長Lees、全球副理事長Diana，教育創新學群副召集人Emre、韓國分會理事長Benjamin、中華民國教育行政學會理事長吳政達特聘教授等學者教育家以及地方社會支持。

彰化縣芳苑國小吳偉誠校長表示感謝政大及國際組織來到芳苑，讓STEAM國際科文和雙語課程能在偏鄉深耕，讓孩子連結全球。未來的世界將是科技與美藝和諧建構永續的世界，「越在地，越國際」期待在與政大合作下，我們以在地精采的人文與自然環境，讓孩子與世界做朋友，今日我們深耕孩子的學習，孩子的未來也將精采可期。

本永續教育發展基地由已故地方賢達洪志強先生與其家人黃寶珠女士和洪瑞妏小姐無償提供，響應公益雙語教育。地方賢達「阿進帶你採蚵趣」阿進表示，芳苑緊鄰臺灣最大的原始泥質濕地，擁有寬達6公里的潮間帶，希望漁村未來能以永續生態旅遊結合周邊相關產業共同發展。「海牛驛站」李一長店長也表達「一府二鹿三艋舺四北斗五番挖」，當年的番挖就是今日芳苑，芳苑現今更保有全臺獨一無二的的人文特色-海牛文化。活動現場由海洋職人洪月盡教導學生鑽蚵殼綁蚵串，在地美食餐廳「智仔烤蚵」、「世源炸蚵嗲」以在地食材呈現特色美味料理，活絡漁村文化經濟。

顏教授表示，政大及國科會產學聯盟為協助培育適應AI經濟與未來多元環境，兼具科技與人文的跨領域國際人才，並增進教師對SSD永續教育與STEAM雙語教育之專業知識，將持續辧理師資公益培育計畫，以跨科整合的國際創新教材教法導入學校，提昇學生跨領域素養、學習解決真實世界問題的能力，鏈結世界同步成長。
